The following link leads to the original hi-res texture pack which you can install using the official N64 Texture Pack Manager. Read the official guide for installation instructions if you havent already.
What makes this texture pack worthwhile is not the fact that its new, its the fact that it is of high quality, with many eye-catching improvements over the original texture pack. For example, since Paper Mario is well known for its vibrant and colorful skies, here is how those change:
Aside from a pretty awesome visual style to the game, it brings a couple of other new changes. One of which is a new, ultra-compact animation frame. After seeing this in action I cant help but feel that this might be the best way to run Paper Mario.
Another great thing about this texture pack is its clarity. This is in comparison to the HD texture pack, a lot of the new items, especially those that are cut back or large in the original texture pack are now much more clear than they were in the HD texture pack. This is especially true of the paper towel and the jar of potion. If there is a downside to this texture pack, its in the controls. Having been used to playing Paper Mario on the Gamecube controllers, this is by far the worst experience Ive had with this game. Although I can get used to the controls over time, Id much rather play the game on the GBA or Switch controllers.
If you experience any FPS issues you can try to turn off culling in your renderer. Other than that CPU is probably your bottleneck. You can also try to lower the texture resolution on these textures. The original textures are for a low res 640x360 framebuffer, however the new textures are each for a native res 1280x720 framebuffer. 3d9ccd7d82
